How To Publish Your Blog On The Amazon Kindle

We have an Amazon Kindle at home, it’s an electronic book reader. It’s brilliant for storing lots of books on, especially when traveling (up to 1,500 books apparently!), light and easy to read. What a lot of people don’t know though is that you can also read blog RSS feeds on it, and sell your RSS feed to other readers.

To be able to have your blog content available for Kindle readers to purchase via the Kindle Store, you need to do a few things.

First sign up at Kindle Publishing, you will have to create a new account even if you already have an Amazon account. You cannot use the same details as your Amazon account.

Then provide the answers to 3 security questions in case you forget your password. Finally for the account setup you will have to enter your bank details and Tax ID. If you’re not in the US you can use the check/cheque option.

Once the account is created you can add your blogs. You enter your feed URL (usually your Feedburner feed), then add the details of your blog. You will need to add two images (the help section can tell you how to do this if you’re not sure), on 800×600 for the screenshot, and a masthead/logo a maximum of 430×50 in size.

Then you’re done! You can generate a Blog Preview to see how it looks on the Kindle and then Publish to the Kindle. This takes 48 – 72 hours then appears in the Kindle Store.

You will get paid 30% of the monthly blog subscription price for every subscriber to your blog, however Amazon determines the price on what it thinks is fair. This is usually $0.99 or $1.99, and you will only get 30% of that.

    1. It’s not a naive question! If people visit your site on a tablet they are usually added to the mobile visitors stats. You can see stats by screen size often too in stats programs.

  1. Tried registering myself as Kndle publisher. There is option of selecting USA or UK while registering. Don’t know how you people got the choice of your country? 🙁

  4. The amazing new e-book reader launched by Amazon, called Kindle is the talk of the town these days. About as small as a paperback book, this device is capable of reading all types of files right from Word docs to HTML to text files as well as .MOBI. Here are a couple of things you need to be aware of while using the Kindle.

  5. Joel,

I just tried to open an account and found out that when you live outside of the US and want to select the cheque option, Amazon will charge an $8 fee per cheque sent.

I don’t think it’s all that worth it for now. I may consider it again at a later date, but that’s a lot of money to give back to Amazon.

I just wanted to pass along the message since other readers might not know this.

    1. Thanks for the update Krizia, I didn’t know that. I guess when the Kindle is launched internationally then that may no longer be a problem. I don’t know when that will be though…

Thanks for this information. I didn’t know you could do that.

I feel my content is quite valuable and I invest a lot of time on quality and I believe a lot more people can benefit from my knowledge in healthy eating and healthy lifestyle of high performers.

  9. Hey all, I have heard a lot about Amazon Kindle but never seen it 🙂

Is it big enough to be able to read books and blogs. I have also heard another online marketer (Howie) talk about it. In fact he even gives it free in some of his competitions inside in training courses.

    Must be a good device.

    1. It’s great for books Ravi, you can change the font size. However I actually haven’t tried it for blogs but I would guess it works just as well.

  11. Thanks for the heads up on this. I have three of my blogs loaded so far.

BTW I find it funny that people keep wanting the kindle to have audio functions–they are called audio books and that technology is already handled with other devices!

    1. True! The text to speech isn’t too bad but there aren’t many reasons to use it. I wonder if the text version will allow you to download audio books to it?

  13. My immediate thoughts at looking at the Kindle are: is it compatible or does it have Braille functions for the blind. Perhaps this could be a new tablet in development but in any event, you would accommodate a world-wide need if you develop it. Hat’s off to the developers and engineers who have mastered their fine craft.

    1. It has text-to-speech functionality – no tablet as far as I know is capable of producing Braille.

  15. Joel, this is great info. I bought my daughter a Kindle for her graduation present and she loves it. I am going to publish my blog here-as always, I may need your help. Thank you so much, Lori
